Day 2
Pink City.
After a good night’s sleep (and half of next
day), we were all raring to go. Loads of places to see, lots to do.. Jantar
Mantar, Hawa Mahal, Aamer Fort, Jal Mahal and so on..
First stop? Rawat Mishtaan and Namkeen. :P

A quick bite of Pyaaz ki Kachori and Indriyani, and we had
already passed Hawa Mahal and Chand Pol before we knew it. Lietrally. Our
Primary Target: Aamer Fort, which we covered in good time.
Had just enough time to catch the sunset after seeing the Meera-Krishna temple and almost seeing the ‘Taj Mahal’. Best place to catch the Jaipur Sunset? Nahargarh Fort!

| The Meera Krishna Temple, believed to be the only such temple there is. Seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa. |

Very scenic place, so ofcourse, we were inclined to take more than a few pictures. The setting sun in the backdrop of the city made a picture-perfect setting at the fort’s boundary wall, which we scaled to ensure that perfect snap. And then, SNAP!
Humpty Dumpty’s specs had a great fall. To the other side of the fort wall, down the valley.
Any other (normal) person would rue the moment, blame something or the other and walk away. We couldn't; these were Humpty Dumpty’s specs after all!!
After a moment of despair, a ray of hope..
Against the backdrop of the setting sun, we (Deep) saw a few kids along the fort boundary, climbing up the valley! We shouted to draw their attention, but they were busy having their own fun I guess.. But then, after a while, I saw one of them on this side of the fort wall!!
Voila.. If they could climb in, we could definitely climb out. They had long left by the time we reached the spot we saw them, but a little bit of digging and exploring on our part, and we found a small exit which would take us exactly where we wanted to go: the other side of the fort wall! And thus began a mini trek of sorts, with Sapan and me treading along the steep slopes to retrieve the treasure ‘almost lost and given up upon’. The day in Jaipur would end well..

Oh, but how could the day end without food? Our appetite for
adventure and fun is second only to our appetite for food. And we were told
about a certain special “Bejad ki roti; Aloo, pyaaz and paneer ki sabzi, and Rabdi”; we began the hunt for a shop whose name and location we didn't know. Again,
after a lot of local and shop to shop inquiries, after having almost given up,
we found it: ‘Om Rabdi Bhandar’! Don’t let appearances fool you.. It’s a deceptive
little shop, with no options as such. But they are masters in the craft of
making that one thing they know.. We were well rewarded by not just the food,
but hospitality also. I guess the food felt tastier because we were actually
made to work for it, but it was all worth it in the end.| Jal Mahal |
A day well spent.
Now, off to Pushkar..
